LANCE DAVID LEWIS

EDUCATION

Mr. Lewis attended Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts from 1994 until he graduated in June 1997. During his law school career, Mr. Lewis served as a Research Assistant and Trial Advocacy Workshop Coordinator to Professor Charles J. Ogletree, Jr. of the Harvard Law School and as a fact researcher for Professor Kenneth Gormley of the Duquesne Law School.

From 1991 to 1992, Mr. Lewis was enrolled as a student at Georgia Military College where he graduated with honors, and received an Associate Degree in General Education. From 1993 to 1994, Mr. Lewis was enrolled as a student at Brenau University at Ft. Gordon, Georgia where he graduated summa cum laude, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration.

Mr. Lewis dropped out of school after the eighth grade to begin working as a laborer and assistant stevedore when he was fourteen years old (1980). After obtaining his General Education Diploma (G.E.D.) from a Temple University Program (1982), he enlisted in the United States Army as a Communications Specialist (1984). During his tenure in the Army (1984‑1992), Mr. Lewis served as a communications and basic skills instructor to new recruits; took part in two armed conflicts; and received numerous awards and honors, including achieving the rank of Sergeant.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

In 1996, Mr. Lewis worked as a summer associate with the law firm of Ballard Spahr Andrews and Ingersoll, LLP ("Ballard Spahr") in Philadelphia, and began his legal career with Ballard Spahr in 1997 as an associate in the Labor and Employment and General Litigation Departments.

Mr. Lewis has represented clients in federal and state courts and before federal and state agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, and the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. In addition, Mr. Lewis has counseled corporate clients with respect to all aspects of labor and employment law, including hiring, discipline and termination and has represented management in labor grievance hearings and arbitrations.

Mr. Lewis has conducted seminars for business clients on several aspects of labor and employment law, including such issues as technology in the workplace, individual privacy, and discrimination in the workplace. He also has lectured on torts at the Community College of Philadelphia.

Mr. Lewis has represented several governmental agencies and private entities, including the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority, the Philadelphia Housing Authority, the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority, the City of Philadelphia, Temple University, the Philadelphia Tribune, Zanzibar Blue, and the Peak Media Corporation.

Mr. Lewis is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the American, Pennsylvania, and Philadelphia Bar Associations.

CIVIC ACTIVITIES

For several years Mr. Lewis has mentored teenagers and adults who have been involved with the criminal justice system, and has spoken to school aged children with respect to remaining in school and obtaining higher education. He also is very active at the Church he attends, where he provides leadership to the Legal Ministry and legal services to the Church leadership and congregation.
